The British Government representation in the Czech Republic is located at the British Embassy in Prague.
The British Embassy in Prague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Senior Trade Adviser. The successful applicant will join the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) which is a UK Government department which helps build an appetite for British goods and services globally, promotes and finances international trade and investment, and break down barriers to trade & investment to help businesses to succeed.
The Senior Trade Adviser will focus on two sectors: Defence & Security and Infrastructure. Previous work experience from one or both sectors is valued but not required for applying.
This is a locally engaged ‘Country Based Staff’ position within the British Embassy Prague. In a matrix management set-up, the role is line-managed by the Country Director for Department for Business and Trade to the Czech Republic. The role will involve some travel within the Czech Republic and occasionally to the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
Main Responsibilities / Duties:
- Support UK exporters to succeed in the Czech market, providing market analysis, gather business intelligence in the relevant fields.
- Build a strong pipeline of commercial opportunities with focus on two sectors Defence & Security and Infrastructure through export promoting activities.
- Be in charge of organizing trade-related visits of UK Secretaries of State, Ministers and other high level government officials. Provide support in delivering business events and trade missions for business stakeholders.
- Proactively engage, and account manage key UK companies and Czech contacts from the relevant sectors as well as internal/external stakeholders to boost UK exports to the Czech Republic.
- Cooperate with various governmental bodies (Ministry of Trade and Infrastructure, Ministry for Defence, Ministry for Transportation etc.)
Wider Embassy Activities
The jobholder is also expected to contribute to wider work of the British Embassy in Prague through corporate activities, including crisis work.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience

- Fluency in English and Czech (both oral and written, minimum C1 level);
- College / university level degree in a relevant area;
- Min 2 years of full-time working experience in relevant public service or in a private sector;
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across business and government;
- Excell in working as part of a team with ability to work well on own initiative;
- Strong communication and presentation skills;
- Great ability to prioritize;
- Availability for travel domestically and internationally;
- MS Office user (Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams).

This is a full-time fixed-term position for 24 months with possibility of extension by mutual agreement, of 5 working days (37.5 hours net) per week. Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 17:00pm with a flexible working hours arrangement. Staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 Czech/UK public holidays per year.
The monthly salary is 66,990 CZK (gross). In addition, staff receive a meal vouchers contribution.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 3-months probationary period.
The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Czech Republic are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Czech Republic employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Czech Republic and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Start date is an indicative target start date.
